More Adventurous Fell Walks Near Helvellyn Cottage

Skiddaw

Skiddaw is probably the easiest route up of the English 3000ft peaks, with easy navigation and no tricky technical sections.  It’s pretty steep to start with!

The shortest route starts from Latrigg car park, although this can get very busy.  You can also walk up from Keswick (as well as lots of other places).

10km with 650m of ascent on rough but not technical paths with very easy navigation.

Helvellyn

While staying at Hevellyn Cottage, why not climb Helvellyn itself? Another one of the four English 3000 foot peaks, with panoramic views across the Lake District. The illustrated route is quite technical (including Swirral Edge) so please check on the weather, make sure you have the right equipment and suitable mountain skills.

16km and 1000m of ascent on technical terrain.

There are lots of other route options including the famous Striding Edge.

Scafell Pike

Why not aim for the top. The highest peak in England, with views of Scotland and the Isle of Mann.  From Helvellyn Cottage the best start point is from Seathwaite in Borrowdale. There are quite a few route options including the Corridor Route.

14km with 1000m of ascent on moderately technical terrain (although probably easier than Helvellyn) although navigation can be tricky in bad weather and we recommend only going up not down the corridor route.
