Some notes on Getting Around Whilst Staying at Helvellyn Cottage
By Car
By far the easiest way to get about from Helvellyn Cottage is by car. We are a few minutes from the A66 which will quickly take you into the Northern Lakes.
You can also access the fells from Pooley Bridge, Glenridding, Askham or Martindale Head at the bottom of Haweswater, amongst many nearby local spots.
By Train and Bus
It is possible to get around by train and bus, but you need to be very organised. Penrith station is on the West Coast Main Line. The station is about 2.5 miles from Helvellyn Cottage. There is a taxi rank at the station, although you may have to wait. Taxis can be difficult to book.
Buses run to Penrith, Askham, Pooley Bridge, Glenridding Keswick and Kendal. They are not as frequent as you expect if you live in a city! You have to get some of them from Eamont Bridge, a mile away.
